In 1844 Peter, aged 29, married Mary Jones at St Leonard's church in East London. Peter was a policeman. Peter's residence is shown as 13 Basing Place, on Kingsland Road, Shoreditch. Mary was illiterate as shown by her signiture on her marriage certificate: "X Mary Jones, her mark"
Peter and Mary lived at 13 Basing Place all their married lives.

- Peter Henry Carney, born 4q1844 (Shoreditch 2 432). Peter was a leather salesman. In 3q1873 Peter married Caroline Larkby (born 2q1843, died 4q1910). The

Caroline died 4q1910 (Shoreditch, 1c, 77) and Peter died 1q1911 (Hackney, 1b, 305), aged 66.
- Jane Elizabeth Carney, born 3q1846 (Shoreditch, 2, 445). The
1881 Census
shows Jane working as an "attendant to the insane" at the famous Bethlam Royal Hospital, where the word "bedlam" was born. In 2q1881 (Shoreditch 1c 227) Jane married either George Adams or Henry P*.
- Mary A. Carney, born 1q1848 (Shoreditch vol. 2, p. 478). Mary remained unmarried. The

1901 Census
show Mary living with her younger brother Thomas.
- William Thomas Carney, born 1q1850 (Shoreditch vol 2, p. 478). In 1q1872 (Shoreditch 1c 334) Thomas married Dina Rebecca Seabrook (born 2Q1850, St James, 1, 94), less than three months before the birth of their first child. Dina died in 4q1880 aged 30 (Edmonton 3a 125). The

shows William, widowed, living with his mother-in-law Sarah Seabrook and William's children:

- Rosina Sarah Carney born 2q1874 (London City, 1c, 17). The
1891 Census
shows Rosina living with her uncle Thomas.

- Alice Clara Carney born 1q1879 (Shoreditch, 1c, 54)
The
1891 Census
shows William and daughters living in Asplin Road, Tottenham. In 2Q1891 (Edmonton, 3a, 395) William married Emily Pharo. The
1901 Census
shows William, a shopkeeper, and Emily with Rebecca and Rosina in Northumberland Park, Tottenham.
William died 4Q1923 (Edmonton, 3a, 532), aged 73.
- James Carney, born 3q1851 (Shoreditch, 2, 497) at Kingsland. In 2q1878 (Shoreditch, 1c, 218) James married Clara Miles, born 2q1852 in Finsbury (Shoreditch, 1c, 115). The

- Clara Carney, born 2Q1879 (Shoreditch, 1c, 172). In 2Q1901, Clara married Joseph William Sutton (Edmonton, 3a, 730). Joseph and Clara had the following children:

- Gwendoline Margery Sutton, born 2Q1905 (Romford, 4a, 586)
- Gerald William Sutton, born 2Q1908 (Romford, 4a, 596)

- Nellie Carney, born about January 1881 (Shoreditch, 1c, 149). In 4Q1912, Nell married Edwin A. Caron (Romford, 4a, 1080).
- James Carney, born 4Q1882 (Shoreditch, 1c, 129). James remained unmarried
- Gertrude Carney, born 3Q1884 (Shoreditch, 1c, 124). In 4Q1912, Gertrude married Francis Bernard Cownley. Francis and Gertrude had the following children:
- Maud Carney, born 3Q1886 (Shoreditch, 1c, 143). In ?1910 Maud married Archiebald Debenham and had three children:
- Archibald Ian S. Debenham, born 2Q1916 (Chelmsford, 4a, 1306)
- Joan H. Debenham, born 4Q1921 (Chelmsford, 4a, 1162)
- Ann E. Debenham, born 1Q1931 (Chelmsford, 4a, 1065)
- Florence Carney, born 3q1888 (Hackney, 1b, 487). married Geoffrey Pausey, no children.
- Thomas Carney, born 3q1890 (Edmonton, 3a, 329). Thomas's
1918 draft card
shows that he was born on 27th July 1890. Thomas married Edna and emigrated to USA. Thomas and Edna had three children, Tom, Stuart and Nanette.
- Dorothy Carney, born 4Q1893 (Edmonton, 3a, 378). In 2Q1917 (Romford, 4a, 801) , Doll married Bejamin "Sid" Andrew. Sid and Doll had no children.

In 1881 James was a boot salesman living in Dalston. In 1901 James was a travelling book seller living in Tottenham. The
1911 census
shows James and Clara living in Goodmayes, Ilford, with their children. James died 4q1923 (Romford, 4a, 516), aged 82 years.

- Thomas William Carney, born 10th July 1856 and christened on 29th January 1865 at St Leonards in Shoreditch (IGI). Thomas was a clerk. The
1881 Census shows Thomas living at home with his mother. Thomas married Mary Reading in 3q1881 (Islington, 1b, 510), . The

show Thomas and Mary had the following children:
- Thomas William Carney, born 2Q1882 (Hackney, 1b, 474). In 3q1905 (Edmonton, 3a, 1017), Thomas married.
- Lilian Jane Carney, born 1Q1884 (Hackney, 1b, 411). In 2q1906 (West Ham, 4a, 182) Lilian married Harry Dumbell, born 1q1880 (West Ham, 4a, 146). Harry and Lilian had the following children:
- Cyril A. E. Dumbell, born 1q1913 (Romford, 4a, 1132)
- Winifred I. Dumbell, born 1q1916 (Rochford, 4a, 1349)
- Olive D. Dumbell, born 3q1921 (Rochford, 4a, 1276)

Thomas died 1q1911 (West Ham, 4a, 204), aged 54. The

shows Mary, widowed, living with Henry, Getrude and Sidney in Knotts Green Rd; Leyton.
Peter died on Boxing day 1864.
Mary continued to live at 13 Basing Place on Kingsland Road, Shoreditch for many years, as shown in the
1871 Census
and
1881 Census.
Mary died 24th January 1891 aged 77 years of "general natural decay" while at 39, Southgate Road, DeBeauvoir Town, West Hackney
