In 1860 John married Fanny Horsman. The 1861 census shows John and Fanny living in Weston Street, Southwark. The 1871 census and 1881 census show that John and Fanny had the following children:

• James Ernest Boris Cross, born 4Q1862 (St. Olave, 1d, 31). At the 1871 census James was staying with his grandfather, James Cross, at 11 Frith Street. The entry is listed as Earnest Cross. James appears in the 1881 census as an 18 year old clerk. In 1886 James inherited the family business, and the 1891 census shows James as head of the househould. James reputedly sold the family bakery at Frith Street and went to Oxford University. In 3q1896 (Hackney, 1b, 1215) James married Mary Ada Burston Chick born 3q1864 (Kensington,1a,33). The 1901 census and 1911 census shows that James and Mary had the following children:
  • Doris Ada Cross born 1q1899 (Edmonton, 3a, 359) in Crouch End. Doris remained single and lived in Bournemouth. Doris died 1q1967 (Christchurch, 6b, 288)
  • Clifford Horsman Cross born 1q1905 (Edmonton, 3a, 461) who died 2q1906 aged 1 year (Edmonton, 3a, 182).

• Edward G. Cross, born 4Q1865 (Shoreditch, 1c, 90). Edward appears on the 1871 census. Edward died 4q1873 (Shoreditch, 1c, 72) aged 8.

• Clara Elanor Cross, born 4q1868 (Shoreditch, 1c, 88). The 1901 census shows Clara boarding in West Ham, and in Stratford for the 1911 census. Clara was cashier at a furniture dealers. Clara remained unmarried and died in 3q1944 (Wandsworth, 1d, 335)

• Elizabeth Ann Cross, born 1q1870 (Shoreditch, 1c, 83) . Elizabeth appears on the 1871 census but probably died 3q1871, aged 1 year (Shoreditch, 1c, 72)

• Caroline Fanny Cross, born 1q1871 (Shoreditch, 1c, 78)

  In 4q1897 (West Ham, 4a, 510) Carrie married Alfred Allen and had three children:

  • Daisy Allen born 3Q1899 (West Ham, 4a, 276) in East Ham. In 3Q1921 (Romford, 5a, 1382) Daisy married Henry Nancarrow. Henry and Daisy had a daughter:
    • Sylvia Nancarrow, born 1Q1925 (Romford, 4a, 962). In 1q1947 (Romford, 5a, 1043) Sylvia married Howard W. Truss. Howard and Sylvia had two daughters:
      • Helen S. Truss, born 1949 in Brentwood
      • Sarah E. Truss, born 2q1953 (Brentwood, 4a, 555).

      In 1956, Sylvia, Helen and Sarah went to Colombia in South America as shown here

  • Percy Allen born 2Q1901 (West Ham, 4a, 313). Percy had 2 sons at Brentwood then moved to Birmingham
  • Marjorie Allen born 3Q1912 (Edmonton, 3a, 966). Marjorie married a chicken farmer

  The 1901 census shows Alfred and Caroline living in East Ham with their one-year-old daughter Daisy and Caroline's two younger brothers Harry and Arthur. The 1911 census shows Alfred and Caroline living in Edmonton with Daisy and Percy

• John Cross, born 1872. In 3q1903 (West Ham, 4a, 323) John married Caroline Sophia Fullalove born 1q1853 (Greenwich, 1d, 880). John, like his father, was as a baker. In 2q1911 (West Ham, 4a, 259) John and Caroline had a son, Harold Cross. In 4q1925 (Romford, 4a, 1164) Harold married Mary McQuiggan (born 3q1904 (Romford, 4a, 623). Harold and Mary had two children:
  • Anthony Harold Cross born 1q1928 (West Ham, 4a, 276)
  • Eunice Cross born 2q1932 (Romford, 4a, 694)

• Edwin Cross, born 1874

  The 1891 census shows Edwin as a 16 year old apprentice book finisher living with his brothers and sisters at 41, Kingsland Rd, Shoreditch

  The 1901 census shows Harry as a single 22-year-old living with his elder sister Caroline. The 1911 census shows Harry living with his elder brother Edwin and his wife Teresa in Plaistow. Harry's occupation was book binder gold finisher. In 2q1912 (West Ham, 4a, 575) Harry married Isabelle Allen, a sister of Carrie's husband. Harry worked for a firm that imported cotton seeds

• Arthur Cross, born 4q1880 (Shoreditch, 1c, 55), died 2q1945 (Ilford, 4a, 276). The 1901 census shows the 20-year-old Arthur living in East Ham with his married elder sister Caroline. Arthur was a coppersmith. In 3q1907 (West Ham, 4a, 59) Arthur married Rose Emily Bristow (born 1884 in Rew Burton, Essex), who was Caroline's servant. The 1911 census shows Arthur and Rose living in East Ham. In 1Q1915 (West Ham, 4a, 517), Arthur and Rose had a son, Arthur Cross, who married twice.

  Rose died on New Year's Day, 1930, aged 44 (West Ham, 4a, 1).

John died in 13th November 1885 aged 48 years. Fanny died 13th January 1891 of acute bronchitis at 41 Kingsland Road.
